English Clubs Dominate KPMG Study - 2017

Six of England's Premier League clubs are in the top ten of the new 2017 report by KPMG when it comes to Europe's most valuable clubs.

Having shared top spot with Real Madrid, the new report by KPMG shows that Manchester United are now clearly in top spot, becoming the first club to surpass the Euro 3billion threshold in Enterprise Value.

In comparison to last season the top 32 clubs combined Enterprise Value of Euro 29.9billion showed 14% growth, and for the top ten of the table, six English clubs take their place in the shape of Manchester United, Manchester City, Arsenal, Chelsea, Liverpool and Tottenham Hotspur.

Real Madrid and Barcelona take second and third place respectively in the table as they continue their dominance from Spain, whilst Bayern Munich lead the way from Germany's Bundesliga. Juventus' six titles in a row sees them remain the standout from Italy's Serie A.

The study analyses broadcasting rights, profitability, popularity, sporting potential and stadium ownership and global head of sports and the report's author Andrea Sartori explained.

'While this is partially explained by football's broadcasting boom, the internationalisation of the clubs' commercial operations, their investment into privately-owned and modern facilities, and overall more sustainable management practices, are also key reasons for this growth. In terms of media rights value, the English Premier League sits comfortably at the top of European leagues, although other major leagues have outlined well-defined strategies to compete for the attention of global fans.'

The Top Ten:

Manchester United - 3.09bn euros
Real Madrid - 2.97bn euros
Barcelona - 2.76bn euros
Bayern Munich - 2.44bn euros
Manchester City - 1.97bn euros
Arsenal - 1.95bn euros
Chelsea - 1.59bn euros
Liverpool - 1.33bn euros
Juventus - 1.21bn euros
Tottenham - 1.01bn euros

Individually clubs can't influence their broadcasting income in the study because of the nature of such deals, but this year ten clubs feature with a valuation in excess of 1bn euros and that's a two club increase on 2016 with Juventus and Tottenham coming into the table.

Tottenham replace French Ligue 1 side Paris Saint-Germain, ut obviously the two Spanish clubs dominate the +2bn euro market from a single country.

The report bases itself on financial and non financial results from both the 2014/15 and 2015/16 campaigns. Sporting results in the season of 2016/17 are not considered for the purpose of the report.
