Bayern Didn't Consider Man United's Muller Bid

Manchester United have been credited with a long-term interest in Bayern Munich forward Thomas Muller.

An offer of over €100m for Muller was made by United in 2015 according to chief financial officer Jan-Christian Dreesen.

He confirmed the offer from United when former Bayern coach Louis van Gaal was in charge at Old Trafford. This world record bid wasn't ever considered as the Bavarians had no interest in selling our best player.

Dreesen was quoted by Sport Bild - via ESPN - as saying.

'Yes, that actually happened - a fax arrived from England. But selling Thomas Muller was never a topic of discussion. When a player is right for us, we would be stupid to weaken our team for a short-term record profit.'

President Uli Hoeness added.

'Manchester United wanted to pay €100 million for him a year ago. I'm not worried about Thomas.'

Much has been made of the money in the Chinese Super League at the moment and how this could threatened the European game with the best players being lured away by the money.

However, Dreesen added he doesn't think this will be a problem in the long-term as the initial boom will then see it fall with things returning to normal.

'I think the people in China can also do their sums. Over the course of time, everything will return to normality. There were horrendous prices at the start of every boom in economic history. And then they fall. That's exactly what will happen in China.'
